Jan Darcy is considered a "washashore" on Cape Cod although her maternal family dates back to the Mayflower. She grew up in the DC area with only a week or two on the Cape in summer. Her family lived for those few weeks spending time with family, hearing stories of those members long gone and their roles and antics in Barnstable Village. Her grandfather was a blacksmith in the village and a great grandfather had been a lighthouse keeper on Martha's Vineyard. There were buggy rides into the dunes of Sandy Neck, clam bakes with neighbors, and time with her grandfather in the blacksmith shop making sweetheart rings from horseshoe nails. Jan paints to recapture those times and finds all things Cape Cod worth visiting with paint.
Jan is a juried member of Monday Painters on the Dennis Green, Shop of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and the Cape Cod Art Center. She is a member of the Yarmouth Art Guild and joins the Cape Cod Art Center's Plein Air group in good weather. She has participated in Plein Air events in Chatham (Chatham Sparkles 2019) and in Barnstable (Barnstorming 2019). Her miniatures can be found at the Spotted Cod in Sandwich, Elburne of Dennis, and Nautique in Brewster.
