Eileen Smith

Eileen Smith was raised in Ridgewood, NJ, and had her first art lesson at the age of nine. Her passion for painting grew steadily, and in 1977, she received a degree in Fine Art and Philosophy from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. She moved to Cape Cod soon after that, and studied drawing and watercolor technique at the Cape Cod Conservatory in Barnstable, MA. She has since enjoyed a 40 year career as an artist, gallery owner, and art instructor.

In 1986, Eileen opened “HandCraft House”, an art and gift gallery in Brewster, MA. Although she sold that business thirty years later, the new owners still feature her work. In 2020, Eileen joined Eastwind Gallery Artist Cooperative in Orleans, MA.

For many years Eileen has been a painting instructor with the Nauset Continuing Education Program in Orleans. She also served on the faculty of the Cape Cod Conservatory for 12 years, and taught at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, MA.

The primary inspiration for Eileen’s art remains as always, the incomparable beauty of Cape Cod’s natural landscape.
